News Article March 7, 2008 CeBIT News 2008: The Power of a Laptop in Your Hand (By Keith Waller) Canadian company Meta4Hand (Hall 13, Stand C33) has integrated a UMPC with a
picoprojection engine. This creates a “smart” projector PC, which can be operated wirelessly
with various smartphones currently available on the market. The result means you can carry
around a full function PC using the projector for display and a smartphone for keypad.
“The wireless pairing of smartphones with the smart projection devices provides full server
side functionality with full mobility and access to the full desktop experience for mobile
phone users,” says Ray Moschuk, Meta4Hand’s CEO. “We have pioneered a new paradigm
of mobility for the enterprise market, and ultimately for the consumer market. Our reference
designs are available to prospective partners in manufacturing and distribution of wireless
devices to serve these markets.”
“Our patented software gives you the power of a laptop in your hand,” adds Moschuk.
Meta4Hand has been working on the product for two years and the resulting reference design
can accommodate various pico-projection engines currently coming onto the market.
Its portfolio of products work with
smartphones to give users access to large
screens without having to lug around
their PC and real time access to the
applications they use every day. That’s
technology that’s attracting the interest
of suppliers to Europe’s aerospace
industry, says Moschuk. He figures his
solutions can cut down aerospace
equipment from three tons to 300
pounds. And in aerospace, that sort of
weight saving matters.
“There is no longer any need to carry
laptops, notebooks or tablets,” says
Moschuk, “because we turn your
smartphone into a mobile desktop
virtually anywhere.”
